I’m having some trouble finding a summer job…suggestions? Resume?
I’ve been applying everywhere in our village for a job or internship…I’ve offered to three companies to work completely free so far. I’ve had three interviews and two of them turned me away because I planned on going back to school at the end of the summer. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong that I’ve had such a horrible turn out. Here is my resume maybe you could make a few suggestions to change it? If you don’t see any problems or have any other ideas please feel free to give your insight.

Obviously I’ve exchanged some names so that no one can locate me or bother my friends or family haha
Honestly I don’t care where the job is I’ve been turned away from every where from McDonalds to Funeral Homes and every job between…

No offense but you have put way too many places for experience and volunteering. The person reading your resume will get bored of it and throw it in the trash. List the most recent volunteering and organisations.
Structure your resume like this: (ONLY 1 PAGE!!!! EASY TO READ)
Objective (1 line about exactly what it is you want)
An internship position as (title) where my (insert skills and experience) will add value.
Selected achievements
3-5 bullet points where you also include if you saved money, gained money.. something quantitative (if possible).. all employees think about is what you can do for them.
Education
Also include courses that are relevant to the job you are applying for and GPA in that course
Experience
Computer skills
Additional information
Maybe list some spare time activities like sports that show you are motivated, team player etc
You absolutely have to point out acheivements, skills, expeirence that is relevant to the job you are searching. When they get a standard resume they throw it out because it shows that you havent spend 5 minutes to think about the job. The content in each resume has to target exactly what is they are looking for.
if the company is looking for a team player, hard working, good communication skills.. you prove that you have these skills by listing exactly through your acehivements, experience etc where you have showed this.
Your cover letter needs to be structured as a sales letter. Short and specific. Point for point what can you do for them.
summer jobs were gone months ago
75% of teenagers won’t have jobs this summer
YES!!! www (dot) sellitforme (dot) info
GOOD LUCK!!!
I definitely recommend revising your resume to include the most impressive or relevant information. Instead of listing a ton of organizations, make a point to highlight your best aspects as well as any technical skills you might have, or special qualifications for whatever jobs you’re applying for. That might mean tweaking your resume slightly for each job application, but it will help.
Network, as well. And don’t offer your services free. Some employers might take that to mean you don’t think you’re worth getting paid, in which case they have no reason to hire you anyway!
If you can’t find a job, here are my suggestions for how to spend your summer:
